Our American Cuisine is an online food and humor magazine about the meals we cook and the culture we consume every day.”

RECIPES

Taking inspiration from traditions and cultures from around the world—whether from our heritage, travels, or books and websites—we combine disparate elements, techniques, and ideas to craft meals that are new and uniquely American.

ESSAYS & IN-DEPTHS

Our American Writer hunts through contemporary culture for the ideas that bop above the rest.

BOOK REVIEWS

We “devour” books. In the variegated cultural quilts in which we all find ourselves embedded, we cannot ignore how food has a home in texts. From the quotidien to the unique, food offers authors—whether Toni Morrison or Tony Bourdain—one means of many to fill up their works with meaning. Cookbooks, novels, memoirs, and more offer places for us to learn, think, and wonder, so Our American Cuisine wants to share with you some of the books we find most delectable.

KITCHEN TIPS & FAILS

Cookbooks and food blogs often glamorize cooking. While the subtle beauty of thyme suspended, in a ripple of broth, may be undeniable, the impression of “effortless perfection” that can often lurk behind such staging is false. Cooking is hard. With practice and patience, hands adjust and brains quicken, but everyone makes mistakes. Our American Cuisine is no exception, so we want to share with you some of our “learning” experiences. Honest humor always has a seat at the table, so if you have related stories of your own, feel free to share.

The Our American Cuisine family cooks from the heart.
